چکیده

Normal physiological values of different blood parameters for various animals are influenced by a number of factors such as age, sex, breed, season, altitude, climatic conditions, nutrition and life habits of the species [4,6,9,19]. It has been reported that the significant differences (p < 0.001) in glucose, total lipid, cholesterol, total protein, uric acid and calcium levels were found between the dry period and lactation period of cows. [17]. In our other study, it was shown that leucocyte counts and mean corpuscular volumes (MCV) were not different in the lactation stages and dry period, and hemoglobin levels were similar in the lactation stages but lower in the dry period, and that haematocrit and erythrocyte counts were the highest in the third lactation period, and mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH) and mean corpuscular hemoglobine concentration (MCHC) were the lowest in the third lactation period [10]. It has been shown that the erythrocyte or whole blood potassium concentrations and erythrocyte or whole blood sodium concentrations and the sum of cation concentrations within erythrocytes remain relatively stable in both sheep and cattle kept under constant environmental conditions [1]. However, no comparative studies have been reported on the effect of lactation periods on erythrocyte and whole blood cation concentrations. The reports available on erythrocyte cation composition in dairy cows only show comparisons between those in late pregnancy and early lactation of dairy cows [3,16] or monthly variation in these cations in dairy cows [7]. It was suggested that the relationships has been observed between the erythrocyte parameARTICLE ORIGINAL

Factors Affecting the Dry Period Length and Its Effect on Milk Production and Composition in Subsequent Lactation of Holstein Cows

The study aimed to determine factors affecting the dry period length and effect of dry days on milk yield, milk composition and lactation length in the next lactation of dairy cows. Data used for analysis included 7264 lactation records collected from 2012 to 2016 on 4737 Holstein cows raised in 152 herds. The statistical model used to determine the factors influencing the dry period length sho...

Effects of water desalination on milk production and several blood constituents of Holstein cows in a hot arid climate

Fourteen primiparous Holstein cows (180.0 ± 4.3 days in milk) with a mean (±SD) daily milk yield of 35.0 ± 1.3 kg and a body condition score of 3.2 ± 0.2 were allotted into two groups (n = 7), and were fed a ration consisting of (dry matter basis) 35% corn silage, 25% alfalfa hay and 40% concentrates. Salt was provided free choice. The experiment was performed during the period of heat stress, ...

Alterations of the electrocardiographic parameters in relation to circulating electrolytes and cardiac enzymes during different productive states of high producing Holstein dairy cows

BACKGROUND: Dairy cows undergo physiological changes during pregnancy and lactation and cardiovascular system may alter during these periods. OBJECTIVES: Understanding the physiological effects of production periods of dairy cows on heart electrical activities can aid to better monitoring the cardiovascular system in these animals. METHODS: Five multiparous Holstein dairy cows were studied from...

Thirty two multiparous Holstein cows were used in a randomized block design to investigate the effects of feeding diets included two different source of nonfiber carbohydrate during the transition period on dry matter intake (DMI), lactational performance, blood metabolites and parturitional characteristics. Cows received total mixed rations containing either macaroni wastes(MW) or steam-flaked...

Relationship between season, lactation number and incidence of clinical mastitis in different stages of lactation in a Holstein dairy farm

The aim of the present study was to compare the occurrence and duration of clinical mastitis in different seasons, stages of lactation period and parities in a Holstein dairy farm in Iran. A retrospective epidemiological survey from April 2005 to March 2008 was conducted on 884 clinical mastitis cases of 7437 lactations. Data of each case including calendar-date of mastitis onset, days in milk ...
